What is CompareUV.com?

CompareUV.com is a simplified model of UV dosages achieved on surfaces for disinfection. CompareUV.com is an educational tool and is not to be used for determining UV device protocols. Consult the UV device manufacturer for operating procedures.

Clean Sweep Group, Inc. provides no warranty regarding CompareUV.com.

How are CompareUV.com doses calculcated?

CompareUV.com uses two known properties of UV light transmission: distance, approximated by the inverse square law (1 / meters from source^2), and incidence angle calculated by Lambert's law (cosine(angle)). Angles > 90 degrees are considered shadowed. Reflected light is not included in CompareUV.com calculations.

What are the limitations of CompareUV.com?

  • The 2-D model does not accurately represent complexity of healthcare environment.
  • CompareUV.com does not include all factors for determing dose, including light reflection, environmental conditions (temperature, humidity), UV device directional output, and others.
  • CompareUV.com does not include all variations of placement strategies used by UV devices.

  • Why did Clean Sweep Group, Inc (CSGI) build CompareUV.com?

CSGI is a contracted UV-C servicer provider, i.e. healthcare facilities contract CSGI Technicians to disinfect their facilities with UV light. CSGI chooses UV devices based on efficacy and operational efficiency.

After the introduction of autonomous UV robots, CSGI conducted a series of experiments and analyses to determine if CSGI should adopt autonomous devices into their service. One of the first analyses was a simulated comparison of competing placement strategies, including static and autonomous methods. A dashboard to simulate various settings and configurations was later created and published as CompareUV.com for interested parties to use freely.

Where can I get more information on this topic?

CSGI performed a series of non-simulated experiments with a partner hospital to compare competing UV-C placement strategies. The article titled Comparing UV-C dosages of emitter placement strategies in a community hospital setting was published in September 2023 by the journal Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology
